When Temptation Comes

Sep 17, 2023    Pastor Matt Keller

Ever felt like temptation is an inevitable part of life that constantly tests your willpower? It's true, trials and temptations are like two sides of a coin in this journey of life, as apostle James enlightens us. This sermon aims to shed light on this challenging subject, drawing wisdom from the teachings of James to prepare and guide us when we face temptations. We'll not only talk about the inevitability of temptations, but also their source and how they are never God's doing.

Delving deeper into the issue, we will discuss the critical distinction between a test and a temptation. James propounds that temptation is borne within us rather than outside. We'll use the metaphor of fishing, and the way a lure is used to ensnare unsuspecting fish to help you understand how temptation works. Our internal desires can often be destructive, and giving in to temptation can lead to harmful consequences for not just ourselves, but others around us as well. Prepare to gain new insights into your own behavior and beliefs.

In the final segment, we'll explore the path to overcoming temptation, channeling our desires through faith in Christ, deepening our understanding of God, and prioritizing our love for Him. We hope that through this episode, you'll not just understand the reality of temptation better, but also learn how to guard yourself against it. We pray for God's guidance to help you stay focused on His person and nature when faced with temptation, and strengthen your trust in Jesus. So join us in this enlightening discussion and let's navigate the treacherous waters of temptation together.
