When The Tables Are Turned

May 28, 2023    Pastor Matt Keller

In this sermon, we will dive into Esther 6:1-13 and discover the powerful theme of divine reversals found within the book of Esther. The story of Esther is an incredible account of how God works behind the scenes to bring about His purposes, even in the most unexpected circumstances.

We will begin by setting the stage of the story, where the wicked Haman has plotted to annihilate the Jewish people. But as we examine Esther 6:1-13, we witness a pivotal moment when the tables are turned on Haman and God's providence is clearly revealed.

Together, we will explore three significant aspects of this passage:

1. God's Perfect Timing: We will discover how God orchestrates events and strategically positions individuals at the precise moment to bring about His divine interventions. The chapter begins with King Ahasuerus being unable to sleep, which leads to a series of events that ultimately results in Haman's downfall. We will reflect on the importance of trusting God's timing, even when circumstances seem dire or uncertain.

2. Divine Recognition: As the story unfolds, we witness the King's realization of Mordecai's previously unrecognized acts of loyalty and bravery. We will explore the significance of God's timing in bringing recognition to those who remain faithful to Him. This section will emphasize the importance of remaining steadfast and faithful, knowing that God sees and rewards our obedience in due time.

3. The Power of Divine Reversals: The climax of the passage comes as Haman, the chief architect of evil plans, finds himself completely humiliated and ultimately meets his downfall. We will examine the divine reversals that occur in this narrative, highlighting how God's justice prevails, and the plans of the enemy are thwarted. This section will remind us of God's sovereignty and His ability to turn the tables in our lives, bringing about unexpected victories and deliverance.

Through this sermon, we will gain insight into the book of Esther and draw practical lessons for our own lives. We will be encouraged to trust in God's providence and timing, to remain faithful in our obedience, and to believe that He is capable of bringing about divine reversals in our own challenging circumstances. Join us as we explore the remarkable story of Esther and learn to rely on God's faithfulness, even when the tables seem completely turned against us.
